Personality is the cornerstone of the Ego, even if it is ephemeral in the Conscious, the seat of the personality is the Unconscious and like they say, a good house is built on a solid foundation. A good personality means to be rid of complexes, and living an actuated life, typically advised in Employee Performance Review. Complexes are the deeper problem around which hinges the issue of Personality. Every person who is to the world and of the world has complexes, it is perhaps said without a doubt that the Kingdom of God lies not in this world but outside this world. We are all meant for something and it is this that causes the heart to linger, the longing to seep in and desires to creep out. To find the purpose of a human being is God’s job and a Skill Evaluator is fulfilling a Godly goal. In this post we look at the Personalities or personas that fit into Software development and how to evaluate Personalities using the Dovetail method.
Software development or coding practices is a job that requires immense concentration, impermeable logic and sitting long hours in front of the computer. Sometimes I think the introverts would fit in nicely into this profile, but without adequate safeguards of research, this would be ill advised to say. It is easy to use a term, “introverted extroverts” for software developers, now, isn’t that mingling two types of personality type. Yes, it is, and fair to say, the software developers clear personality exams of the old method, and still don’t know who they are. Cloistered around their machines, writing code with cuploads of coffee, they thrive in solitude but take them to a meeting and they will be power pointing like extroverted managers. They just don’t know! Until you tell them in an Employee Performance Review.
Not their fault either, the Old method of evaluation is flawed, it doesn’t weed out complexes to find out the personality and instead give them a persona that is good for 5 weeks and when they go take the MBTI again, it slots them into another personality type. In my experience the majority of the programmers are introverts, only if they would accept it too. Comes back to the same question, what persona should I recruit for software development, where a persona is a standard profile that is required for the fit:
Now, a persona is the true color of the personality, it is without complexes, but when you recruit you get people who have flawed personality, they have cleared the personality exam, the HR has allotted them a persona on paper, has recruited them based on this profiling, however, they are not the persona.
Workplaces has different environments, every day brings a different hue to the same thing, the blues of Monday and hectic parley of Tuesday, followed by the light load of Wednesday etc. Given the environment a software developer is in, when the archetypes are constellated, they will do things that he or she can’t stop themselves from doing. Think about how good it is to meet someone in an Employee Performance Review and then to see them in real life. Personality Development takes time. An introvert will behave like the extrovert since complexes have played a part and part-personalities dominate the dominant personality that is now repressed. It’s an interesting phenomena, the introvert doesn’t like being an introvert, the extroverted personality thinks, “Oh, the bosses think I am good only at sales and marketing profiles.” It’s a conundrum that MBTI is responsible for.
With the new age Dovetail method, it becomes easier to identify the correct personality that will hold for a lifetime. From 1998 – 2001, I worked for a software development company, there were 5 software developers I interacted with, all of them smart and homegrown – Jitin(Snr Developer), Virender(Snr Developer), Rajeev(Developer), Amit(Developer) and Geetanjali(Developer).
This is how it unfolded, there might be a little bit of conjecture here, I wasn’t this smart then to figure out their personality profiles. They had been recruited based on their following personality traits:
(Energy | Mindset | Thinking | Feeling | Motivation)
As it turns out, Jitin was the profile we wanted for a software developer, best suited for the job, but this was also because the company saw him as what I have written above. This is a Persona, not his Personality.
Personality development & evaluation using the Dovetail method is complex, because it takes time to understand how woodworking falls into the picture, the below diagram is self-depictive of how woodworking plays such an important role to achieve 100% accuracy. Isn’t 100% accuracy important in Employee Performance Review. Further, to take the complexity out of the game I have decided not to go into woodworking and yet try and explain the process of evaluation.
The 7-step process for Personality evaluation is as follow:
In conclusion, I would like to state that this is the only method that will give 100% accuracy for Employee Performance review and so woodworking is the key to this article and subject matter of Personality. Even now it occurs to me that MBTI wasn’t a bad option for a world starved of information on this, and it aligns well with the Personality Theory of Carl Jung. However, after a career of some 25 years, it seems impossible that I wouldn’t know myself, but there it was, the evidence, when I started work on the Dovetail method. My personality is an INFJ of MBTI, but I had never reached those numbers with MBTI. Dovetail method told me that you are a Introverted, Logical, Clear thinking, Motivated person with a desire to earn money who could do anything and nothing was impossible. There is a part-personality that still exists in me, that is one of someone who never completes an assignment and leaves it unfinished. Over a period of time, the impact of this has diminished as my Self has taken over, and Personality Development happened. MBTI works on the Personality Theory, while we work on the Complex Theory of Carl Jung.
